Herbal pharmacology

Chinese herbal medicine is a classical science based on the conclusions drawn from almost two thousand years of clinical records and, in the modern era, guided by laboratory and epidemiological studies. It is practiced in China by hundreds of thousands of licensed doctors who, like me, have been through at least 5 years of medical school. Chinese herbal medicine is used as an orthodox form of medicine alongside ‘western’ allopathic medicine in large hospitals throughout China to treat hundreds of millions of patients every year.

If it doesn’t work, I won’t use it.

I prepare bespoke formulae for each patient based on classic formulae with centuries of proven efficacy and modified for each patient based on specific diagnosis.

Unless specifically indicated, I use 100% plant-based herbal medicine. All of the herbs used in my prescriptions are sourced from ethical suppliers that use the 道地药材 principles of growing particular plants in particular environments, picking them in season and processing them correctly to ensure the precise medicinal properties are intact. I see it as my ethical duty as a medical practitioner to avoid buying herbs that are polluted with heavy metals and other environmental toxins or contributing to the destruction of wildlife or any endangered species. To ensure the best results, many formulas require boiling for a period of time and drinking the ‘decoction’. Some formulas may be taken in powder or pill form.
